How to properly devour a ripe mango

An ode to the last few mangoes of the season.. this is me ..taking the piss .. also ..I drew and painted that fucking mango .Productive Saturday evening. Cheers. 

How to properly devour a ripe mango

The mango should smell like what it would taste, the scent of the mango should reach your nose and your tongue before your brain has even had the chance to savor the liquid gold swimming in your m

outh with your own juices breaking down that mango flesh. The ripe smell should surround your being, from off the counter, off the fridge, off the bedside table, from wherever that mango is. The room should have the ghost of a mango smell even after it is no longer in the room.

To start, take the ripest mango, that which yields to your gentlest touch, the skin should almost WANT to slip off the flesh. Hold the mango between your palms and roll your palms ever so gently, back and forth, and back and forth. Till you feel the soft flesh within the yellow, orange skin that is almost too thin, breaking down into a pulp.

Bite just the tip of the top of the mango , be careful not to squeeze or hold the mango too tightly. Hold the mango gently in your hands and bite the bitter top off and spit it out, possibly into a bin, more probably onto the floor. You want to hurry up, because the pulp will be bursting to get out of the skin.

Make sure you are still being gentle with the mango. Squeeze the mango from the bottom up with your mouth over the top, let the pulp into your mouth, make sure to pause and savour the succulent marrow quickly turning into juice in your mouth. Use the back of your hand to wipe the spill down your chin off and make sure to lick it off too, waste not.

After you’ve pushed out as much of the moist disintegrating flesh as you could , begin to pull away the skin from what remains of the meat, in bits , so you can graze your teeth on the skin to get the threads of flesh that didn’t give while you were sucking the top of the mango.

Leave some of the skin still on the mango and go at the seed with your teeth , tongue and lips now. Suck at the stone to get the last few drops and pull with your mouth at the threads of flesh too.

Only you and your mango exist. There will never be another you and never another mango that is the same. Noone will ever know what it tasted and felt like in your mouth. Enjoy your next one especially humbly , now that you know how to properly devour a ripe mango.
